Is the Bible shaping your thinking, or are you trying to shape the Bible? | Scripture, the Authority | 04 20 2026 Your Daily Portion Sabbath School Lesson with LD “The Anomaly” Harris (L. David Harris) 2 Timothy 3:15 to 17 makes the Bible’s authority unmistakable. Scripture is able to make us wise for salvation through faith in Christ. It is God breathed, and it is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness, so God’s people can be complete and equipped for every good work. The Bible is not just inspirational. It is authoritative, purposeful, and designed to shape the whole life. That means we must not treat Scripture like a tool to serve our preferences. God is not a puppet, and His Word is not meant to be controlled by our moods. So we avoid careless methods that bypass understanding, and we resist the habit of picking only comfortable passages while ignoring the ones that confront us. If we want God to speak, we must receive the Bible as a whole and study it carefully, trusting that God reveals what we need, when we need it. God also calls us to love Him with all our mind. He does not ask us to switch off reason. He asks us to submit reason to His Word. Human reason can discuss, explore, and “work out” salvation, but it is still human, capable of error and self deception. When we become arrogant, self sufficient, and convinced we already know it all, we neglect relationship with God and place ourselves above the Word. Scripture’s authority calls us back to humility, teachability, and obedience.
