What happens when gifted people stop guarding their weak spots? | Distractions and Temptations | 05 24 2026 Your Daily Portion Sabbath School Lesson with LD “The Anomaly” Harris (L. David Harris) Samson’s life is a warning that calling does not cancel vulnerability. He was chosen by God for a specific purpose, yet he repeatedly gave in to temptation. Judges 14 and 16 show a man with great potential, but weak boundaries. He kept moving toward what attracted him, trusting his own strength more than God’s guidance. The outcome teaches us that spiritual gifting is never a substitute for surrender, and strength without dependence can become a trap. This lesson also widens the issue. Temptation is not always something obviously evil. Sometimes it is distraction, things that may not be wrong in themselves, but consume so much time, energy, and attention that little remains for God. Work, social media, shopping, sports, food, all can become spiritual drains when they are out of balance. The enemy studies our weaknesses and uses them to dull our relationship with God. Jesus gives the better pattern. He understood weariness, pressure, and human limits, yet He regularly withdrew to pray. He knew that time with the Father was the surest source of strength against temptation. Samson fell because he assumed he was strong enough on his own. Jesus shows us that victory comes through dependence, not self confidence. So the lesson is direct, if we do not guard our weak spots and seek God first, distractions can become strongholds. But faith helps us stand, and faith grows by hearing the Word of God.
