Does your posture match your surrender? | The Posture of Prayer | 05 04 2026 Your Daily Portion Sabbath School Lesson with LD “The Anomaly” Harris (L. David Harris) When something goes wrong, we call a friend. When something goes right, we share the news. Prayer invites us to treat God the same way, with closeness and honesty. Ellen G. White calls prayer “the opening of the heart to God as to a friend.” It keeps relationship alive. Prayer also declares allegiance. When we pray, especially when we kneel, it is a visible act of surrender that says, “God is sovereign, and I belong to Him.” The lesson highlights that kneeling can be a physical expression of humility and readiness to serve. Daniel knelt. Jesus knelt in Gethsemane. Stephen knelt as he forgave. Peter knelt as he sought God’s power. Paul knelt as he prayed with believers. These moments show that posture can reflect reverence and dependence. At the same time, Scripture shows variety. People stood, sat, and even fell on their faces before God. The Bible does not require one posture, because the heart condition matters most. But posture still matters because it often reveals what is happening inside. If you can kneel but usually do not, try it. You may find that the body’s humility helps the heart become more surrendered.
