What does it mean to “walk with God” for years? | Enoch Walked and Talked | 05 05 2026 Your Daily Portion Sabbath School Lesson with LD “The Anomaly” Harris (L. David Harris) Genesis 5:22 to 24 does not give many details about Enoch, but it gives the one detail that matters most, Enoch walked with God. For 300 years, his life was defined by consistent communion, until God took him. That is a powerful reminder that heaven measures a life by relationship, not noise. Enoch lived in a time when evil was increasing, yet he stayed faithful. He must have been steadfast in prayer, persevering through daily experiences and growing closer to God over time. Ellen G. White describes him as active in labor and service, but constant in prayer. The more pressing his responsibilities, the more earnest his prayers. He would spend time among people, then withdraw for seasons of solitude, hungering and thirsting for divine knowledge. Through that rhythm, Enoch reflected the divine image so clearly that even the ungodly noticed heaven’s imprint on his countenance. This matters for us because God does not call us to be useless hermits. Like Enoch, we can live productive lives and still walk and talk with God, but it requires an abiding relationship that continues through the day, not only in emergencies. And prayer is always available. There is nowhere we can go where God cannot hear. Yet the lesson also gives a practical tip, praying out loud can help focus. Silent prayer can drift into distraction, but spoken prayer reminds us God is real, God is listening, and we are speaking with purpose.
