White paints a beautiful picture of what closeness looks like, staying so near to God that in every unexpected trial, our thoughts turn to Him as naturally as a flower turns to the sun. This lesson destroys a common fear, that we might “bother” God. You cannot burden Him. You cannot weary Him. The God who numbers the hairs of your head is not indifferent to the needs of His children. His heart is touched by our sorrows and even by our utterance of them. He invites us to bring everything that perplexes the mind. Nothing is too great for Him, because He holds up worlds and rules the universe. And nothing is too small for Him to notice, because anything that concerns your peace matters to Him. No chapter is too dark for Him to read. No perplexity is too difficult for Him to unravel. No sincere prayer escapes His attention. And then comes the personal assurance, God’s relationship with each soul is distinct and full, as though you were the only one on earth. That is how personal His care is. That is why we can pray freely, honestly, and continually.
