Do we really need another sign to believe God? | Just Give Me a Sign! | 05 17 2026 Your Daily Portion Sabbath School Lesson with LD “The Anomaly” Harris (L. David Harris) Many people think faith would be easier if they could just see something dramatic, the Red Sea parting, manna from heaven, or Jesus healing before their eyes. But Scripture challenges that assumption. Even in Jesus’ day, people who had already seen clear evidence still demanded more signs. In Mark 8:11 to 12, the Pharisees came testing Jesus, asking for a sign from heaven. His response was deeply revealing. He sighed deeply in His spirit and refused to give them the kind of sign they demanded. Their problem was not lack of evidence. Their problem was lack of openness. As Ellen G. White explains, what they needed was not more external proof, but spiritual renovation. That lesson still applies today. We have even more reasons to believe than many generations before us. We have the witness of Scripture, the record of God’s faithfulness across history, fulfilled prophecy, and the testimony of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. Signs are not absent. They are all around us. The deeper issue is where we place our focus. If we keep demanding more proof while ignoring what God has already shown, doubt will keep growing. But if we focus on what affirms faith, our confidence in God can deepen. Jesus told Thomas, blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. That is not blind faith. It is trust built on the evidence God has already provided. So perhaps the real need is not another sign, but a renewed heart. Not more information only, but a living, moment by moment walk with God. Faith grows when we stop testing Jesus and start trusting Him. What evidence of His faithfulness have you already been given that you may be overlooking? PRAYER: Lord, forgive me for the times I have demanded more while neglecting what You have already shown me.
