What does real intercession look like? | Moses Intercedes for a Nation | 05 07 2026 Your Daily Portion Sabbath School Lesson with LD “The Anomaly” Harris (L. David Harris) Exodus 32:31 to 32 reveals the heart of Moses as an intercessor. After Israel’s sin with the golden calf, Moses does not distance himself from the people. He goes back to God with honesty about their sin, and with bold, self sacrificing love. He pleads for forgiveness, even offering himself in their place. That is not casual prayer. That is covenant love, standing in the gap. Moses did this repeatedly. When the people were thirsty, hungry, fearful, or rebellious, he turned to God. At key moments, Moses fasted, prostrated himself, and pleaded for days, because destruction was imminent. And Scripture records a powerful phrase again and again, “the LORD listened.” God heard Moses’ prayers. This lesson shows what made Moses’ intercession strong: He loved God and knew God’s character, merciful, gracious, longsuffering, abounding in goodness and truth. He was bold and faithful, holding on through the ups and downs. He reminded God of His covenant and claimed God’s promises for the people. He remembered God’s past leading as evidence for present trust. He accepted God’s answers, yes or no, and still prayed with persistence. Intercession is not only asking for outcomes. It is aligning with God’s heart, trusting His character, and refusing to let go. Moses teaches us to pray for people with love, truth, and perseverance, even when they do not deserve it.
