What makes a leader truly godly? | Moses, Godly Leader | 05 06 2026 Your Daily Portion Sabbath School Lesson with LD “The Anomaly” Harris (L. David Harris) Moses’ leadership strength was not personality, strategy, or authority. It was communion. Scripture gives us rare insight into his relationship with God, because we can read Moses’ conversations with the Lord. Again and again, the secret to his success was constant communication and an abiding relationship with God. In Exodus 33:15 to 23, Moses speaks with bold humility. He does not want to move without God’s presence. He pleads for guidance, asks for assurance, and longs to know God more deeply, even asking to see God’s glory. The manner of the conversation is intimate and reverent, honest dependence mixed with deep desire. Moses is not performing. He is pleading, listening, and trusting. Moses also models intercession, especially when it is costly. He steps in for Aaron during the golden calf crisis, when judgment was deserved and destruction was near. He also intercedes for Miriam when she and Aaron treated him with jealousy and disrespect. Moses could have stood back and let consequences fall, but instead he forgave quickly and prayed for her healing. That is leadership with God’s heart. This is where Jesus’ teaching becomes real. Love your enemies. Forgive as Christ forgave you. We learn to do this by staying close to God, remembering how much we have been forgiven, choosing obedience before feelings, and praying for those who hurt us until the heart softens. It matters because unforgiveness hardens the soul, damages relationships, and blocks the flow of grace. But intercession keeps us aligned with God’s character. SCRIPTURE REFERENCES: Exodus 33:15 to 23 Exodus 20:18 to 21 Exodus 32:1 to 14, 31 to 34 Deuteronomy 9:20 Numbers 12:13 Matthew 5:44 Colossians 3:13 KEY THEMES: Godly leadership flows from abiding communion with God Moses refused to move without God’s presence Intercession is powerful, especially when it is undeserved Forgiveness and prayer for those who hurt us reflect God’s grace REFLECTION: Who do you need to forgive and pray for right now, even if they were wrong? What would it look like to “bridge the gap” today through intercession instead of resentment? PRAYER: Lord, make me a person of Your presence. Teach me to depend on You like Moses did, and give me the grace to forgive quickly and intercede for those who have hurt me.
